ALKALINE

The alkaline diet is believed to impact the body's acidity or PH levels, seeking to reduce acidity and as a result prevent several health issues. While there has been some controversy as to whether diets can impact the body's acidity levels, several high profile people have begun to support the diet. A neutral PH is 7 (most tap waters) while anything lower is more acidic and anything higher is more alkaline.

Note: A food may be alkaline or acidic normally but can switch to the other (acidic forming or alkaline forming) once digested in the body, such as lemons.

PROPOSED BENEFITS

Helps to burn fat faster

Prevents a variety of serious illnesses

Eliminates toxins from the body

Rejuvenates damaged cell tissue

DEBATED CHALLENGES

Certain acids are essential to humans

Eliminates sources of protein and calcium

The diet doesn't impact the body's PH as the kidneys regulate these levels
